British Gas Business Division One Midlands
Saturday 14th October 2006 - 3:00 p.m. kick-off
Bromsgrove Rovers 5 Barton Rovers 3
By Phil Baker
Despite an early goal when Wayne Dyer put Nathan Lamey through on 17 seconds to hit the top right hand corner of the net, the home steam looked to be rather jaded certainly for the first half after their marathon against Abingdon in mid-week. Indeed some were still showing the scars especially Carl Heeley who was sporting a black eye and it was a surprise to see him playing as it looked to be half closed. Such is what heroes are made of.
Daniel Douglas got the equaliser on the fourth minute when he had plenty of time to line up his shot from the edge of the penalty area, which went in off the bar.
A poor back pass from Mark Taylor was touched on by Adam Cunnington and rolled gently into the net to give the visitors the lead 19 minutes. They probably surprised themselves by increasing their advantage on 35 minutes when André Maltay pulled the ball back to Marc Potter who gave Chris Taylor no chance.
It could have been four had Adam Reid not hit a chance over the bar but it was the home team who scored two minutes before half time when Daire Doyle banged the ball into the bottom left corner after a good build up.
Rovers came out well fired up after the interval and had a coupe of good efforts before Lamey got the equaliser on 60 minutes easily beating Ross Tomkins. Carl Heeley got the fourth on 74 minutes when he coolly hit home from a corner and Rovers fifth and final goal came from Neil Davis on 79 minutes.
Despite loosing concentration in the middle of this match, Rovers ended up deserved winners, though they will need to defend better against the higher placed sides.
