Toothless Bromsgrove Rovers crashed out of the Errea cup after a disappointing performance at The Scholars Ground. Rovers were unable to rekindle the spark they had when they reached last seasons cup final and produced their least effective performance of the campaign so far. The visitors failed to produce any threat to The Scholars goal until the second half but could not cancel out Lee Parson's winner.
Manager Rod Brown made seven changes to the side that played against Spalding United, drafting in Paul Lloyd, John Snape, Joe Williams, Stuart Skidmore, Anthony Maguire, Richard Burgess and new signing Scott Stamps. Chasetown also made wholesale changes in view of their forth comming F.A.Cup tie at Halesowen.
The home side played with more verve and a Danny Smith shot at goalkeeper Chris Taylor in the second minute. Craig Holland forced Taylor into a good save with his long range effort in the fourth minute. Two minutes later Smith headed wide from John Branch's cross after capitalising on a mistake by Williams.
Holland headed wide from Branch's deflected cross in the 13th minute and Parsons put Holland through on goal ,but the midfielder misscontrolled the pass and that allowed Stamps to get back and dispossess him in the 21st minute. Chasetown completely dominated the first half creating chance after chance but failing to convert any of them. In the 40th minute Dave Egan wasted a chance from a good position, pouncing on a failed clearence by Rovers, but blasted over the bar.
Nathan Lamey carved out a chance in the 59th minute, chasing a lost cause into the corner, robbed Mark Branch and fired towards the near post where Burgess produced a deft back heel but former custodian Lee Evans got down smartly to his left to turn the effort around the post.
Parsons then punished wayward defending by Rovers with a fine curling effort in the 62nd minute that beat the outstreached hand of goalkeeper Taylor to nestle in the bottom corner.
On 77 minutes Chasetown almost added a second, Parsons corner was partially cleared and Mark Branch curled an effort that Williams cleared off the line.
One minute later Taylor was quickly off his line to clear from Smith, Craig Evans lobbed the ball straight back towards goal which Taylor could only watch the effort just clear the crossbar from 35 yards out.
Burgess carved out a chance for himself in the 87th minute, on the edge of the area produced a delightful chip that beat Evans but the effort came off the crossbar to end Rovers interest in the cup.
