Rovers get a Bite (of the Club)

Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters Society Limited, was launched in February 2001, just before the Club was placed in administration in March of that year. The current Club Chairman was at the time a member of the original Acting Trust Board who made an offer to buy the Club out of administration and put up half the money personally as a deposit. The deal wasn’t completed (according to local press reports) and the Administrator brokered a deal whereby the Trust could acquire 5,000 shares in the Club if they made a £5,000 addition to the £25,000 deposit already on the table. The original depositor raised another £10,000 to add to the total bid which was successful.

The Trust’s £5000 was underwritten by three Trust Acting Board members giving interest free unsecured loans with repayment made from fund raising initiatives planned over the following two years.

Agreement to reward the Trust with shares was simply made “on a handshake” and the Trust have tried unsuccessfully over the last 4 years to receive recognition of the shareholding (and donating considerable sums of money to the “fighting fund”), no share certificate was received nor the shareholding registered at Companies House.

Now, after 4 long years of perseverance, letter writing, attempt to meet, Des Best, Chairman of the Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters Society Limited was finally presented with a shares certificate for 5,000 shares on the pitch before their pre-season friendly against Kidderminster Harriers on the 13th July. The certificate was presented by the Club Chairman, Mr. Tom Herbert, who was the aforementioned original Acting Trust Board member back in 2001.

Proof that patience pays off in the end.
