British Gas Business Division One Midlands
Saturday 10th March 2007 - 3:00 p.m. kick-off
Bedworth United 1 (1) Bromsgrove Rovers 2 (1)
By Phil Baker
Not Rovers best performance of the season but after two disappointing defeats it was good to get back to winning ways with a victory against a side who could easily have taken the points for themselves.
It was a bit of a scrappy match especially in the second half. The home side took the lead as early as the 7th minute when Carl Heeley missed a tackle on James Mace he pushed the ball forward to Jae Martin; he made a pass across the goal which found James Mace, who banged home from close range.
This livened up Rovers and for much of the remainder of the first half kept Bedworth pinned back at their own end. As half-time loomed, and it was looking as if Rovers dominance would again yield nothing, Kevin Banner took advantage of a strong down-field wind to curl in a well-flighted corner. Carl Heeley looked as if he had the last touch but supporters behind the goal were adamant it was in the net before the centre-back got that touch.
The impressive Marlon Walters was still not fully match fit and was replaced by Wayne Dyer early in the second half who resumed his rightful place in midfield after spending the previous game as a sweeper. This added some fluency to Rovers play and the move paid of within just four minutes when the Monserrat international found Kevin Banner out on the left wing, he sent a good cross into the box that Nathan Lamey easily knocked in for his 29th of the season.
Bedworth rallied and tried hard to get the equaliser. Indeed Danny Woodhall was forced into making three very good saves which kept the visitors in the match. In the end Rovers' defence was just good enough to hold on to a just about deserved victory.
