British Gas Business League Division One Midland
Saturday 11th November 2006 - 3:00 p.m. kick-off
Berkhamsted Town 1  Bromsgrove Rovers 3
By Phil Baker

After the previous week's debacle, Rovers managed to get back to winning ways with a comfortable victory against a side that had their moments but looked to be rather inexperienced.

Owing to Chris Taylor's suspension, James Coates took his place between the sticks on loan from Worcester City whilst Daire Doyle and Mark Taylor were welcomed back in defence. Scott Stamps looks to have made the left back position his with Joe Williams having gone to Chasetown.

The home team started lively with Adam Martin firing wide in the first minute but that is all they managed in the first 45 minutes as Rovers kept the ball well inside the home half during this time. Nathan Lamey put the visitors ahead on 36 minutes with a candidate for goal of the season when he received the ball with his back to the goal just outside the box and turned beautifully to hit it over 'keeper Matt Davis.

Five minutes after the interval Neil Davis had two chances to increase Rovers lead but hit wide. Mark Taylor's return came to an unlucky end when he had to go off with a calf injury but even he must have smiled when Neil Davis picked up a clearance from defence just over the halfway line beating the offside trap ran, half the length of the pitch then round Matt Davis for Rovers' second.

Berkhamsted though were not down and out and just two minutes later the lively and hard-working Darren Franklin got one back when the visitors failed to clear far enough, he picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and struck a good shot past Coates with the outside of his boot.

With ten minutes to go Adam Martin gave Rovers a numerical superiority when he received a second yellow. The away team then put the game beyond reach when John Snape got their third four minutes later when his misfired shot went in off the post.

Finally on the day that female officials came in for some unjust criticism, a mention for referee Alison Chapman who had a good game in the middle.
