British Gas Business League Division One Midland
Saturday 18th November 2006 - 3:00 p.m. kick-off
Bromsgrove Rovers 3 (2) Solihull Borough 2 (0)
By Phil Baker

Rovers fielded new signing Dave Bridgwater in midfield and three strikers up front, mainly in desperation with so many injuries. A strong wind blew up the pitch and that was always going to make this game more of a lottery. Gary Hay had a good chance well-saved on 15 minutes and Neil Davis should have done better than fire wide two minutes later.

Rovers finally took a deserved lead on 22 minutes when Hay controlled a long ball from downfield, beat two defenders and fired a good shot past Ton Breedon. The same 'keeper then made two the excellent stops from Liam McDonald and Dave Bridgwater before Rovers doubled their lead on 32 minutes when Nathan Lamey glanced in a Liam McDonald corner.

After the break, the visitors got one back on 77 minutes when substitute Lawrence Rawlings hit a hard shot right through Rovers' defence leaving Coates with no chance, but their recovery only lasted a couple minutes. Nathan Lamey produced a fine shot that Breedon pushed on to his post only for Gary Hay to easily hit home from a short distance.

Several substitutions unbalanced the game as Solihull looked to re-dress the balance, whilst Rovers bolstered their defence and avoided exposing themselves too much at the back. However, they did not reckon with the ever-threatening Rory May who was tripped in the box two minutes into added time and converted the spot kick. But it was not enough and referee Mr Horton called time just a few seconds later.
